IRENE
15’00”
Irene lives in Stromboli. An osteopath, she devotes her life to caring for the bodies of others. But in the meantime, she develops her research by assembling scrap metal she finds along the sea.
I spent three weeks with Irene. Her meeting profoundly changed me. In those days we talked about connections between people. Almost automatically her work reflected her arguments. She compared human beings to pieces of iron in the sea: this binds them together with saltiness. Which, over time, turns to rust. Some pieces are made to stay together. These Irene leaves intact, modifying some aspects of them by giving them a humanoid shape or not.
What I found most fascinating about the documentation of her work is that she places her craftsmanship as an artist on the same level as her work as an osteopath. In both cases he is concerned with healing. He restores a form to a wreckage. He restores agility to an injured body.
